LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Louisville Bats won on Opening Night at Slugger Field for the third straight year.

The AAA affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds defeated the Memphis Redbirds, 9-4, in front of an announced attendance of 5,423 at the ballpark in downtown Louisville. Will Benson, Rece Hinds and Tyler Callihan each hit home runs for a Bats offense that had 14 hits.

It's the second straight year the Bats have won their season opener but the third consecutive year the team has won its first home game.Ā 

Benson hit a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning with two outs. Hinds hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning to extend the Bats lead to 4-0.Ā 

Randy Wynne started for the Bats, pitching three scoreless innings while allowing two hits. Lenny Torres Jr. earned the win in relief, going 1.1 innings and striking out two while not allowing any runs.Ā 

On Saturday, first pitch is scheduled for 2:05 p.m. Kids reserved tickets are available for $5 when accompanied by a full-paying adult reserved ticket. The final game of the series Sunday will start at 1:05 p.m.
