LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- It's only been a few days, but it's still setting in for Louisville runner Yared Nuguse that he is now a world record holder.
Nuguse broke the indoor mile world record over the weekend, wining the Wannamaker Mile in New York, coming in at 3:46:63.
The race was his first in 2025, coming off a big year for the duPont Manual High School grad.
Nuguse won a bronze medal in the 1500 meter race at the Paris Olympics in August.
Having accomplished so much over the last six months, he said he feels like he's writing history.
"A big part of why I was able to run that record in the first place is because I did get bronze at the Olympics, and I do have that confidence of just like, I can do things that I might have thought I was capable of beforehand," Nuguse told WDRB Monday. "It's kind of cool just to be able to make that a reality with the very first race I had this year and it just makes me really excited for 2025 in general."
Nuguse said his next goal is to secure a world championship.
