LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Technology training in west Louisville is growing to help the next generation.
WDRB's Keith Kaiser explores the new Amped Tech & Learning Center.
The official ribbon cutting is Thursday, Nov. 20.
Amped (Adventurous Minds Produce Extraordinary Dreams) began as a free music academy in May of 2014. It provided a safe and nurturing space for children ages 8-18 to express themselves artistically and creatively.
That led to launching a technology training program in 2018 to support the parents with career training and job placement. The next step was a business incubator to create a pathway for families to build generational wealth.
The multi-faceted, family-oriented ecosystem inspired the Amped Innovation Center at 25th and West Broadway, opening in 2022. It has become Louisville’s largest home-grown, Black-led, Black-serving nonprofit in just one decade.
Now, the new Amped Tech and Learning Center at 17th and West Market opens its doors in 2025 to help more people with resources.
The 3-story building with nearly 13,000 square feet in the Russell neighborhood provides in-demand technology training for hundreds of individuals and families, business accelerator services and early childhood learning.
The center helps with technology certification, job placement, holistic support and financial literacy. The space also has a unique gift shop featuring local entrepreneurs.
