LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Soon, you will see life-sized creatively painted horse statues around the Louisville area.
WDRB's Keith Kaiser got a look at the Gallopalooza horses before they hit the streets.
Louisville’s Sidewalk Derby has produced more than 500 decorated fiberglass statues since 2004.
Designs have ranged from life-sized horses in different poses to chess pieces to six-foot-tall julep cups.
March 2024 will mark the return of Gallopalooza for the program’s 20th Anniversary and in honor of the 150th Running of the Kentucky Derby.
Gallopalooza statues will be displayed throughout the community April through October 2024.
At the special Public Preview, see all the 2024 Gallopalooza statues for the first time at the Churchill Downs’ First Turn Club before they are placed throughout the community.
There are 75 full-size horses and 75 tabletop statues celebrating Kentucky Derby 150.
The proceeds from Gallopalooza support Brightside’s clean and green activities that beautify and foster pride through volunteerism, planting efforts, sustainability and education.
