Pre-made mixers from Louisville company give unique options for Dry January

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Did all the hustle and bustle of the holidays with the big meals and drinking with friends and family have you ready to take a detox? Dry January might be the answer for you.

Dry January is a current trend where you go the entire month of January without drinking any alcohol. Eric Wentworth, co-founder of Modica, visited WDRB Mornings on Thursday to talk more about its benefits.

Modica is a low-calorie mocktail or cocktail mixer made from all naturally-sourced superfoods and other ingredients. The company is Louisville-based and offers special recipes for each of their mixer flavors.

Eric and his business partner, JD, were both in business school at the University of Louisville. At the end of a long day, they wanted something they could easily pour into a glass and not have to put much effort into.

After researching different brands of mixers, they found that they were all full of preservatives and loads of sugar. The two happened to be in the entrepreneurship program at UofL and decided what a great idea this would be for their thesis.

Their college thesis has quickly turned into a career, and is a popular option during Dry January.

Dry January gives you an opportunity to reevaluate your relationship with alcohol.

Some people are so used to coming home from school or work and having a cocktail, Modica gives you the opportunity to still participate in that ritual while not feeling so bad about doing it.

"A lot of people are finding, myself included, that taking a moment at the end of the day to be mindful and make yourself something delicious without alcohol - you will end up drinking a lot less that way," Eric Wentworth said on WDRB Mornings.

Modica is sold at most stores in town, including Paul's Fruit Market and Total Wine and More. You can also find them at most local liquor stores.
