LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Animal advocates are coming together on Mar. 14 for Kentucky Animal Action Day.

They are gathering in hopes of making Kentucky a safer state for animals.

Thom Ham with the Arrow Fund along with Lindsey Peetz and her dog Penny joined WDRB Mornings on Thursday to talk about the organization and their goal.

The Arrow Fund helps severely injured and neglected animals recover and find their forever home.

Peetz was lucky enough to find Penny through the Arrow Fund and has never turned back after adopting her.

Penny was found in December of 2020 with three of her four legs broken after being thrown out of a moving car, so the Arrow Fund was called in to help her and bring her to the condition she is in today.

In Kentucky, felony charges for animal abuse only cover a limited number of species and abusers are not prohibited from owning animals again.

If you want to stand up for better protection laws for animals in Kentucky, you can join the Arrow Fund on Mar. 14. They will be meeting with legislators from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. followed by a press conference and a rally.
