LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- WDRB Mornings welcomes back a familiar face to co-anchor.
Lindsay Allen is joining the team again as Sterling Riggs steps down to spend time with his family.
Longtime viewers remember that Lindsay started with WDRB in 2009 when she came from our sister station in Ohio. She said co-hosting with Candyce Clifft is her dream job.
"There is something special about WDRB Mornings," she said. "Candyce, Sterling, Jude, Mike, Chris, Keith and Amanda have built a family on that anchor desk. It's real and authentic, and our viewers feel it. To be asked to join that family is an honor. Sterling leaves tremendous shoes to fill."
WDRB News Director Jennifer Keeney said Lindsay is the perfect fit.
"She lights up the room with her enthusiasm and positivity, and she will bring that energy to our viewers every morning. That's the dynamic you want when you wake up," Keeney said. "The chemistry of our morning team is what makes it so special. Lindsay has been part of the WDRB family for 15 years and is long-time friends with Candyce, Jude, Mike and Keith. I'm thrilled that the magic we have on WDRB Mornings will continue with Lindsay on the anchor desk."
Sterling announced last week that after 13 years of early alarm clocks and missed bedtimes with his young children that he would leave WDRB and the morning show to focus on his family. Lindsay actually did the same thing a few years ago.
"Most of you know I took a career break about four years ago when my daughter was first born and my son was just a toddler. For the good of our little family, it was the best decision I ever made. But I always knew I wasn't done," she said. "And now that Andrew and Victoria are a little older, here we are. A massive thank you to WDRB for working with me as I've navigated motherhood with young children and my passion for news."
Keeney said WDRB Mornings will miss Sterling, but the station is lucky to have such a seasoned journalist move to mornings. She adds that Lindsay and Candyce are a perfect co-anchor team moving forward, because they are both moms and longtime Louisville residents.
"Lindsay's personality is just part of what makes her so special. She is a journalist at heart who knows this community inside and out, and she cares about it deeply. She chose to make Louisville her home and is raising her family here. She has a passion for telling stories that make a difference."
Lindsay said this is the right move for her personally and professionally.
"I just want to help people. And while God didn't give me the gifts to be a brain surgeon, I do feel that he has called me to be a journalist. My only goal is to help empower you with the information you need so you can make the best decisions in your life, for you family. That's it. And if we can add in a few laughs along the way…mission accomplished. In my book, morning news shouldn't ever bog you down, it should lift you up."
Lindsay also had a special message for the WDRB viewers.
"Thank you for your kindness and encouragement all these years. I can't wait for our next chapter together. See you bright and early!"
