With the cold weather we've experienced this week, I started to wonder what the coldest temperature was Louisville has ever experienced. I imagine some of you may be wondering the same thing, so here it is:

On January 19, 1994, 30 years ago yesterday in the wake of the historic snowfall, Louisville recorded a temperature of -22ºF. Shelbyville recorded a low temperature of -37ºF which set the low temperature record for the Commonwealth. This morning Louisville recorded a low temperature of 3ºF, though most communities outside the metro area started with temperature below zero.

The coldest high temperature ever measured in Louisville is -2ºF on January 12, 1918. To those of you looking for a warm-up, we need to get out of mid-January based on these stats! Warmer air is coming in the week ahead; watch for more blog posts about that in the coming days.
