It's not too often you can see the fireball falling from the sky during the day! Sightings of this fireball were reported from Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, the District of Columbia and the Canadian province of Ontario!
Sighting reports via NASA
According to NASA, the fireball entered Earth's atmosphere around 8:57am this morning over Lake Erie, off the beaches of Lorain in northern Ohio. The fireball was moving at an insane 45,000mph as it started to fall towards the ground. As it did, it fragmented 30 miles over Valley City, north of Medina.
This fragmentation caused large booms and explosive noises heard by many of the public. It unleashed an energy of 250 tons of TNT when it fragmented.
The asteroid in itself was around 6 feet in diameter, which may seem small, but it also weighed a staggering 7 TONS! In pounds, that's about 15,432.4 pounds!!
