LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The city of Louisville opened up its application for people wanting to open a building as an Extreme Weather Shelter.
Snow is expected Thursday night as well as Saturday, and with it will come dangerously cold temperatures. In some areas, the wind chill could drop below 0 degrees.
So the Louisville Metro adopted rules to increase access and safety for popup shelters.
"Extreme Weather Shelters offer temporary refuge for people facing dangerous temperatures, saving lives and reducing strain on hospitals and emergency services," LMPD said in a social media post Thursday. "Facilities like gyms, churches, or community spaces can play a crucial role by opening their doors when severe weather strikes."
