LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Big news for travelers who take the Sherman Minton Bridge.
Three lanes in both directions are now open on the Sherman Minton Bridge, according to a news release from officials with the Sherman Minton Renewal Project.
"Drivers have patiently awaited this milestone, and we know that full weekday access to the bridge is a relief," said Danny Corbin, Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) project manager. "Aside from a final daytime bridge inspection in November to conclude the project, drivers should expect three open lanes during their weekday commutes."
Construction requiring some lane restrictions will continue overnight and on weekends until late November, when the project is expected to be completed.
The ongoing construction is part of the 3-year Sherman Minton Renewal Project, which involves painting and rehabilitating the 61-year-old bridge. The project is anticipated to give the six-lane, double-decked span up to 30 more years of life.
