LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Body camera footage released Thursday shows what led up to a deadly police shooting last week in Louisville.

The shooting happened as Louisville Metro Police officers were responding to another deadly shooting last Monday morning.

According to Deputy Chief Emily McKinley, officers were called at about 2 a.m. Oct. 27 to Ridgecrest Road near Rosette Boulevard on a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found a woman, identified as 45-year-old Tiffany Reiner, on the sidewalk after she was shot.

Before officers had a chance to help Reiner, McKinley said a man, identified as 20-year-old Frank Mejia Aguilar, carrying a gun approached them in the street. The officers told him to stop, but he reportedly continued to come toward them and pointed the weapon.

That's when one of the officers shot Aguilar as he continued to approach.

"Hey, show me your hands ... Show me your hands right now ..." an officer is heard yelling at Aguilar in the body camera footage. Shots are then heard, followed by "drop the gun."

For the next minute of the video, officers continue to yell at Aguilar for him to show his hands and get on his stomach before handcuffing him.

Both Aguilar and Reiner were taken to UofL Health Hospital where they later died.

Police said the shooting happened at a birthday party for one of Reiner's adult children.

The officer who shot Aguilar, Hunter Weaver, is on leave during the investigation into the shooting per department protocol.

LMPD typically holds a news conference and is available for questions immediately after body camera footage is released. But officials canceled a news conference originally scheduled for Thursday afternoon in light of the deadly UPS plane crash.

The department said it will field questions about the police shooting during its bi-weekly news conference next week.
