LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Grocery inflation is down slightly in 2025, but beef prices are still up almost 8% year over year, and other prices are still rising slowly.
The last thing you want to be doing right now is wasting food, but more people do it than you think.
A survey was ran to find the foods thrown away most:
- Carrots
- Milk
- Eggs
- Deli meat
- Bread
- Apples
- Bananas
- Lettuce
And the most expensive item we throw away - Beef. At $15 a pound for most steak, surveys say it's still one of the most wasted items.
Why? Because steak lasts just 3-5 days in the fridge before going bad.
Chefs suggest you buy beef the day of, or the day before you plan to cook it.
Any perishable foods shouldn't be bought more than a couple of days in advance, and while you're shopping, think hard about how much you really need it.
