LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — After nearly a decade without a neighborhood library, Fern Creek families are finally getting their community space back.

The Fern Creek Library has been closed since 2019 after the branch shut down because of budget cuts. Construction crews are now putting the final touches on the space before it is filled with books, technology, learning materials and community resources.

Once open, the branch will offer programs, resources and services for children, students, families and residents across the community.

Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg said bringing the library back has been a priority.

"Kids will be reading, students learning, families at weekly story time, people of all ages and backgrounds accessing the resources, the knowledge and the safe welcoming spaces that only a library can provide," Greenberg said.

An official opening date has not yet been announced.
