LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A home appliance manufacturer is expanding its footprint in Louisville.
Midea, a Chinese Fortune 500 company that sells home appliances, broke ground on an expansion project on Tuesday.
The company's American Research and Development hub is located outside Jeffersontown, just off Electron Drive in Blankenbaker Station. That's where the company plans to quadruple the size of its space, increasing its presence in Louisville by 400%.
"We are thrilled to expand our presence and our U.S. R&D capabilities in Louisville," Midea America Corp. President John Herrington said in a news release. "This new facility emphasizes our commitment to growth and innovation in the United States. With the additional space, we will continue to bring innovative products to market that meet our consumers' needs. We look forward to further investing in this community and creating new job opportunities."
The expansion will add more lab and office space, a consumer research center and a customer showroom.
Midea said it will add about 110 new jobs over the next few years. Its American Research Center was established in Louisville in 2016.
