NEW ALBANY, Ind. (WDRB) -- A Walgreens in New Albany is scheduled to close before the end of the year.

It's located at the intersection of Spring Street and Vincennes Street. A sign on the door says it will permanently close on Dec. 5.

On that day, the pharmacy will close at 3 p.m. Everyone's prescription records will be transferred and available at nearby Walgreens locations, including the store at 2755 Charlestown Road.

The company plans to close 1,200 stores over the next three years, due to competition with online retailers and reductions in prescription drug reimbursement. Roughly 500 of those closures will happen over the next year.

Nearly one in seven Walgreens will be gone by 2027. It's not yet clear if any additional stores in or around Louisville will be closing.
