LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville’s Planning Commission decided to continue a case involving rezoning land for a proposed 200-unit apartment complex on Louisville’s east side.

The six-acre parcel of land is owned by the Glen Oaks Country Club, which is not affiliated with the Glen Oaks neighborhood, and sits adjacent to the 14thĀ hole of the course and Interstate-71. It is currently under contract with a developer who plans to build an apartment complex, parking lot, pond and fountain on the property. According to the listing agent’s office, the sale is pending the outcome of the rezoning process.

Hundreds of homeowners from the Glen Oaks and Norton Commons subdivisions attended the Planning Commission meeting Tuesday night to oppose the development, citing traffic issues and home value concerns, among other issues.

After nearly four hours of debate, the commission decided to continue the case until another traffic study can be conducted. According to a representative from the Planning Commission’s office, the state is expected to put a traffic light at Stone Street and Brownsboro Road this fall, and the commission wants to conduct a study following the installation of that light.

A date has not yet been set for a future hearing. Once the case is re-docketed, there will be opportunity for the public to comment and discuss the outcome of the study.

The planning commission is composed of 10 commissioners. A majority vote is needed for a rezoning recommendation to move forward.
