LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Production union members at Louisville's GE Appliance Park have rejected a new deal with the company.
According to a fact sheet from GE Appliances, the proposed four-year agreement included raises for all production employees, a one-time cash bonus and improved benefits.
But members of IUE-CWA Local 83761 were not swayed. According to a copy of a union letter sent to WDRB News Wednesday evening, 73% of union members voted "no" on the deal.
Union leadership said they would "try and get the company back to the negotiating table as soon as possible," but told members to "be prepared to strike" if the company "should refuse to continue to negotiate."
In a statement, representatives for GE Appliance Park said they were deeply disappointed with the results.
"The tentative agreement, which took two months of thoughtful negotiations by both the Union and the Company and was fully endorsed by the Union negotiating team, included major gains for our production and maintenance teams," the statement continued.
As of right now, it's business as usual at the Louisville appliance park.
It was reported in July that GE Appliances was laying off 4% of all salaried employees, which did not include production workers.
GE is one of the largest employers in Louisville, with about 8,000 workers at Appliance Park. In 2023, it celebrated 70 years in the city.
