LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- UofL Health is laying off "less than 1%" of its workforce.
In a statement emailed to WDRB, the Louisville-based health care system cited efforts to "modernize the delivery of health care in our communities" as a reason for the reduction of its staff.
"Where applicable, impacted individuals have been offered transfer opportunities into open positions elsewhere in the organization," the statement continued. "This move will help leverage the strengths and opportunities as a system, by removing duplication to ensure continued investment in patient care, our people and our communities."
It's unclear what type of positions are being eliminated.Â
UofL Health is Louisville's fifth-largest employer, according to our partners at Louisville Business First, with almost 15,000 employees. One percent of that would equal about 150 workers, LBF reported.
Several hospitals are run by UofL Health in Louisville. That includes the University of Louisville Hospital, which is home to the region's only Level 1 trauma center for adults, according to its website.
The layoffs come less than a month after Dr. Jason Smith was named CEO of UofL Health, replacing Tom Miller after his resignation in June.Â
