LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A major Kentucky whiskey producer is cutting jobs as the bourbon and spirits industry continues to face slower demand.

Whiskey House of Kentucky laid off 22 employees, about 30% of the workforce, at its Elizabethtown facility, according to our partners at Louisville Business First.

The layoffs come as the distillery operates below full production. Whiskey House said its Elizabethtown campus is currently running at about 60% capacity as the spirits market remains sluggish.

Company leaders said the move is intended to help the business weather a broader industry slowdown while positioning it for future growth. Officials also said they expect to hire employees back if demand improves.

In comments reported by LBF, CEO David Mandell said the whiskey industry is experiencing a temporary market dip and that company leaders are focused on maintaining long-term stability while preparing for growth opportunities ahead.

Employees affected by the cuts will receive severance pay, continued benefits for a period of time and job placement support, according to Louisville Business First.

Whiskey House of Kentucky opened operations in 2024 and produces whiskey for outside clients rather than selling its own spirits brand.
