LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A New Albany teenager is being charged as an adult in a fatal shooting 10 days ago.

Police said that Braylon Livers, 17, admitted to shooting Johntae Trumbo, 30, of Jeffersonville on Oct. 21.

The shooting happened just after 10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 21 at a home on West 8th Street. New Albany Police Chief Todd Bailey said officers found Trumbo in the yard of the home suffering from a gunshot wound. He died at UofL Health Hospital in downtown Louisville.

Indiana State Police said after the shooting that the teen stayed at the scene and was detained as soon as officers arrived.

Livers reportedly told investigators that he shot Trumbo in the front yard of their home because he thought Trumbo was pulling a gun on him. Officers said no such weapon was found.

Livers told police that before the shooting Trumbo assaulted him and had been beating his mother, who was Trumbo's girlfriend.

Police said Livers admitted to throwing two of his guns over the fence to avoid getting in trouble. He is charged with being a serious violent felon in possession of a firearm along with false informing and obstruction of justice.
