LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A 19-year-old has been charged in connection with a double shooting and carjacking in Louisville's St. Denis neighborhood Tuesday afternoon, and police are still searching for another suspect.
Jaden Hinds was arrested Wednesday, charged with robbery and receiving stolen property.
The double shooting happened just after 3 p.m. Tuesday in the 4900 block of Saddlebrook Lane. That's near Rockford Lane and Cane Run Road, in southwest Jefferson County.
Louisville Metro Police said officers found two men at the scene who had been shot.
Both men were transported to University Hospital where they are expected to survive. One victim was rushed to surgery for a gunshot wound to his neck.
One of the victims had his car stolen during the incident, police said.
An officer later spotted the car near Cane Run Road and Rockford Lane, and a vehicle pursuit ensued, Sanders said.
The pursuit ended when the vehicle crashed in the 1400 block of Catalpa, near Maupin Elementary School, in the city's Parkland neighborhood.
Once the pursuit ended, Sanders said officers were able to detain one suspect.
According to an arrest citation, Hinds confronted the victims while armed with a stolen handgun. A victim told police he was wearing "a distinctive hooded sweatshirt and distinctive mask."
The confrontation turned physical and shots were fired. One victim was shot in the ankle, while the other was shot in the neck. Court documents state another suspect pointed a handgun at one of the victims who was in their vehicle. Police said the suspect "physically removed" the victim from the car.
The arrest citation states both suspects fled in the victim's vehicle. After the police pursuit and crash near Maupin Elementary School, police said they apprehended Hinds, who was wearing the clothing described by the victim and armed with a handgun.
The second suspect took off and is still on the run. No information about them has been made available.
LMPD's Robbery Unit is handling the investigation because a victim was carjacked.
Hinds will be arraigned in court Thursday morning.
