Louisville police investigating double shooting, carjacking in St. Denis neighborhood

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police are investigating after two men were shot in the St. Denis neighborhood Tuesday afternoon, prompting a vehicle pursuit after a victim's car was stolen.

Officers were called to the 4900 block of Saddlebrook Lane just after 3 p.m. on multiple reports of a shooting, according to LMPD spokesperson Sgt. Matt Sanders. That's near Rockford Lane and Cane Run Road, in southwest Jefferson County.

Once on scene, police found two men who had been shot. Sanders said one of the victims had his car stolen during the incident, and police issued a "be on the lookout" for the stolen vehicle.

An officer later spotted the car near Cane Run Road and Rockford Lane, and a vehicle pursuit ensued, Sanders said.

The pursuit ended when the vehicle crashed in the 1400 block of Catalpa, near Maupin Elementary School, in the city's Parkland neighborhood. Sanders said the incident caused the school to go on temporary lockdown.

Once the pursuit ended, Sanders said officers were able to detain one suspect. Police believe there is another suspect on the run.

Both men were transported to University Hospital where they are expected to survive. One victim was rushed to surgery for a gunshot wound to his neck, Sanders said.

LMPD's Robbery Unit is handling the investigation, Sanders said, because the victim was carjacked.

No charges have been filed yet.
