LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Franklin County man is in custody, charged with fatally shooting his son over the weekend at a home in Frankfort. 

Kentucky State Police investigators arrested 60-year-old Steven Girtley just before 1:30 a.m. Thursday, according to a news release. Police said he was found hiding in a barn on his property in the 6600 block of Flat Creek Road.

He is charged with one count of murder in connection with the death of 36-year-old Justin Girtley, who was found fatally shot on Nov. 9 after police said he was involved in an altercation with Steven Girtley at his home.

When police arrived, they found Justin Girtley with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Steven Girtley ran from the home into the woods before police arrived, according to the release. 

Steven Girtley is identified as the victim's father in court documents. Witnesses told police Steven Girtley approached his son, raised the gun and fired, striking him in the chest.

This is not the first time he has faced charges. Steven Girtley was charged with domestic violence assault in 2016.

He is being held in the Franklin County Jail without bail.
