LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Two men accused of gunning down their older brother at an apartment complex in Fern Creek Sunday morning made their first court appearance on Monday.
It happened around 3 a.m. at the Brentlinger Park apartments in the 1000 block of Brentlinger Park Drive, according to a news release from Louisville Metro Police spokesperson Dwight Mitchell. That's where police found the victim, Darryl Burnett Jr., with gunshot wounds to the leg and head. He was taken to UofL Health Hospital, where he died from his injuries.
Police arrested the victim's brothers, Kiaira Paige and another man named Darrel Burnett, but with a different spelling for the first name. Arrest reports say Paige told officers he was physically fighting with the victim before shooting him in the leg. Police said surveillance video also shows suspect Darrel Burnett shooting the victim in the head with a rifle.
Burnett is charged with murder, and Paige is charged with assault.
During their arraignments on Monday, the judge set Burnett's bond at $500,000 full cash. Paige's bond was kept at $75,000 full cash.
Both men have another court appearance scheduled for Oct. 28th.
