LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville judge doubled the bond to $1 million cash for a man charged with murder in a road rage shooting earlier this year.Ā

Eric Slayton, 31, was arrested April 24 and charged with murder in the Jan. 24 shooting death of 25-year-old Taylor Mudd, Louisville Metro Police Chief Paul Humphrey said in a statement. It happened in the Buechel neighborhood, near Bardstown Road and Fegenbush Lane.Ā

That's where MuddĀ was found inside a car with a gunshot wound. He was taken to UofL Hospital downtown, where he later died. The female driver was also taken to the hospital to be treated for a gunshot wound to her side.Ā

According to court documents, Mudd was a passenger in the car when he was shot. The driver told police Slayton ran a stop sign, forcing them to swerve around his jeep to avoid hitting it. Slayton then pulled up next to them at a red light and fired several rounds, according to the warrant.

A passerby called 911, and LMPD responded.Ā

Investigators later determined that the white Jeep Cherokee Slayton was allegedly driving had been reported stolen.Ā

In addition to murder, Slayton is charged with assault, receiving stolen property and theft of a motor vehicle registration plate/decal.Ā

The judge appointed a public defender for Slayton and ordered him to return to court May 5. He is prohibited from contacting the victim's family or the witness to the crime.Ā
