LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville man was arrested after he allegedly shot and killed another man in Shively early Tuesday.

Robert Gill, 61, was booked into Louisville Metro Corrections around 5:15 Tuesday morning. It happened around 1:40 a.m. at the Speedway in the 4400 block of Dixie Highway. That's where officers responded to reports of a shooting.

Police did not find a victim at that location, but a Speedway employee told them she heard a gunshot in the back of the store.

A short time later, LMPD received a report of a man with a gunshot wound at Mary & Elizabeth Hospital that was "obviously deceased" who arrived by "private means."

The arrest report states that Gill drove the victim to the hospital in his own vehicle.

After he was arrested, Gill said the incident started with a verbal argument in the back seat involving his girlfriend and the victim. He said he parked the vehicle as the two were arguing and reached around, with his gun in his hand, in an attempt to stop them. That's when he said the gun went off, and the victim was shot in the head.

There were other passengers in the vehicle when the shooting happened, and Gill said all of them had been drinking. He also told police that he had taken his prescription Lortab earlier in the day.

He is charged with reckless homicide.
