LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) --Â A murder case has gone cold after 12 years but a Louisville mother hopes someday she'll know the reason why someone shot and killed her son.
On Oct. 20, 2012, Bryan Lewis was shot and killed while watching TV.
His mother was just in the other room when it happened.
Every year when the leaves start to change color, Rhonda Mars looks back on her son's life.
"I'm not really for sure what happened," Mars said. "He was smart, shy. He loved to play basketball."
Lewis was shot and killed in the Beechmont Neighborhood.
"I woke up at 12 on the couch, gave him a kiss and a hug, told him I loved him and that I was going to bed, and woke up at two o'clock in the morning to gunfire," Mars said.
Mars ran out of her bedroom.
"Once I got in there, he was dead on the floor in front of the door," Mars said.
Lewis' family said someone shot him four times in the face and then killed his dog.
"It's overwhelming, like I'm tired. You know? I'm tired. I want answers. I want justice," Mars said.
Lewis left behind two children, a son and a daughter. He was 21 years old.
"I want justice for his kids. I don't want his kids out here in 10 years from now doing this," Mars said.
Instead of letting his case sit cold, Mars wears his name and continues to tell his story.
"You're supposed to be safe in your own home," Mars said. "I'm still here, still waiting. I still have hope."
Sunday evening, Mars also hosted a balloon release in his name.
Lewis' mother is offering a $10,000 reward for information that could lead to an arrest or conviction.
Anyone with information that could help the investigation is asked to call 502-574-LMPD (502-574-5673). Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the LMPD Crime Tip Portal by clicking here.Â
