LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville woman who allegedly crashed into an LMPD cruiser and a semi while driving the wrong way on I-65 South late Friday night has pleaded not guilty to several charges.Â
It happened late Friday night in the southbound lanes of Interstate 65 near the Arthur Street exit. That's where police responded to several 911 reports of a silver SUV driving northbound in the southbound lanes of the interstate just after 11 p.m.Â
Two LMPD officers in a marked patrol car spotted the SUV near St. Catherine Street traveling at a low speed, according to court documents. That's when the SUV's driver -- identified as 57-year-old Monica Edmonds -- flashed her high beams at police and came to a complete stop before "intentionally" crashing into the front of the police vehicle.Â
Edmonds continued forward, pushing the police vehicle about 10 feet before the officers got out of their car and began pounding on the SUV's driver's side window to get the driver's attention. The SUV continued for another 150 feet, with officers chasing her on foot, before striking a semi head-on.Â
That's when officers removed Edmonds from the SUV. She appeared "lethargic and dazed" as officers spoke with her. Police found two "1.5 oz. Fireball whiskey shooters" in her purse. She was taken to UofL Hospital where a warrant was obtained for a blood test to measure her alcohol levels. Officers were unable to conduct a field sobriety test due to Edmonds' "physical state."Â
The results of those tests were not immediately available.Â
While being interviewed in the hospital, Edmonds told officers she had "3 glasses of wine" at an establishment after first saying she hadn't had anything to drink. She also told police she had been waiting for a ride, and "did not know she was the driver in a motor vehicle collision."Â
During Monday's arraignment hearing, Edmonds' attorney asked the judge to lower her bond from $75,000 but that request was denied.Â
Edmonds did receive a work release so she can continue working, but she is not to drive.Â
