LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Nelson County sheriff said a man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after deputies shot at him Monday afternoon.

Kentucky State Police said in a news release that officers responded to an officer-involved shooting around 3:45 p.m. in Nelson County.

According to KSP, a man called 911 stating his son was at home "firing a weapon in a threatening manner."

The suspect, 37-year-old Terry Carney of Bardstown, left the home and officers tried initiating a traffic stop.

Police said Carney rammed a deputy's cruiser with his truck and an officer fired at the vehicle. A pursuit then began until Carney drove off the roadway in the 400 block of Woodlawn Road.

According to police, Carney got out of his truck and fired his gun. Officers fired shots in return.

Nelson County Sheriff Ramon Pineiroa told WDRB Carney died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Pineiroa said five deputies were involved in the incident.

KSP said no officers were injured during the incident.

An autopsy will be performed in Louisville.
