LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man was hospitalized Tuesday morning after he was shot on Outer Loop near I-65 in Okolona following a crash with another vehicle.
Louisville Metro Police spokesperson John Bradley said officers responded just after 11 a.m. to Interstate 65 North at Fern Valley Road to find the man suffering from a gunshot wound.
The victim is expected to survive, and officers determined he was shot after he was involved in a crash with another vehicle on Outer Loop as he approached the I-65 North ramp. Police said the victim was shot when he got out of his vehicle after the crash. He then got back on I-65 and exited at Fern Valley Road.
That's where officers rendered aid until EMS arrived and took him to UofL Health Hospital in downtown Louisville.
Police originally said he was shot while driving.
The violence on the roads has people like Robin Brown, who lives near the shooting scene, worried. "I don’t like gun violence, and to hear that that was so close to my neighborhood" is concerning.
"As a matter of fact, we just went on the interstate this morning right before, I guess right before 11 o'clock, so I'm just glad we wasn't in the crossfire," Brown said.
And she said it seems to be getting worse.
"I don't like it. Now everybody is so bold, it's during the daytime, daylight hours. What about if the kids was out for Christmas break or something? I don't know what it was over, but I really think that we need to do something more about the gun violence that's happening."
The LMPD Non-Fatal Shooting Unit is investigating the case. Bradley said there is "no releasable suspect information" right now, and police haven't confirmed if this is a road rage shooting.
This is the second shooting on area roads in less than two weeks.
Two people were arrested after a man was shot on I-65 North near Henryville, Indiana earlier this month.
Police said two vehicles sideswiped each other. Both drivers then got out with handguns, and a woman fired several shots at the other driver, hitting him in the arm.
Police said it that was road rage, and arrested the two people involved.
