LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Heaven Hill employees and interns helped put together backpacks of school supplies and care packages Thursday morning for Louisville students and teachers.
Volunteers gathered at William H. Perry Elementary School on Dixie Highway to fill 400 backpacks with school supplies. The supplies ranged from pencils and paper to crayons and erasers.
"Most of those students are on free and reduced lunch, so, in that regard, every piece of their economic opportunity is so important to them to prepare them for success for the future," said Laura Barnum with Heaven Hill Brands.
Volunteers assembled 50 care packages that will be given to teachers and staff during their upcoming open house.
This was part of the Heaven Hill Spirited Neighbor Initiative, which aims to support the west Louisville communities near the Bernheim distillery.
