LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Students at Cane Run Elementary in Louisville sent some kindness to people who need it most.
They sent cards to Norton Children's and Audubon hospitals and Louisville Metro Police officers and firefighters at the Shively Fire Department.
Firefighters surprised the students on Friday to thank them for their kindness. They were able to ask questions and look at the firetruck. The students also talked about how they show kindness.
"Lets say someone is feeling down, and they keep on saying they're stupid and they can't do it. I'm going to come up and say 'well, yes you can, because whatever you believe you can achieve,'" first graders Terrell and Lamia said.
It all started when the school's counselor signed the school up for the "Great Kindness Challenge" last month. The counselor said she's been trying to teach kids that kindness can defeat bullying, and help teachers feel appreciated.
