LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- One year ago on Halloween night, a Louisville pizza delivery man was shot and killed, and the case still hasn't been solved.
William Reichle, 52, was shot and killed while trying to help a co-worker fill her tires at a Marathon gas station on Cane Run Road near Rockford Lane.
“We all miss him a whole lot," said Candace Hill, who worked with Reichle at Annie’s Pizza. "We talk about him just about every day, about the funny little things he would say."
Immediately after Reichle was shot, his passenger, who is his nephew, attempted to drive the car to the next road. He stopped in a front yard on Popular View Drive, where Reichle died.
“There’s not any words for it," said Reichle's sister, Joyce Falin. "You see something and ‘Hey, I’m going to call Bill. Wait a minute: He’s not here.'"
The lack of answers is even having an impact on Reichle’s niece.
“We moved out of the city with our kids just because I can’t imagine letting them play in this area knowing that these people could be anywhere,” Jessica Falin said.
Employees who worked with Reichle every day say people still often call wondering where he’s been. Some even still request him when they order food.
“We go through with it, and, you know, they send their sympathy and everything, and we just wish we had our Bill back,” Hill said. “He’s here. We feel it. His warm spirit is with us at all times. We’re struggling, but we’ll get on.”
A photo now hangs in the restaurant to greet patrons as soon as they walk in. It’s a reminder of how much "Uncle Bill" is missed and to never stop searching for who took his life.
