ELIZABETH, Ind. (WDRB) -- A fire truck from the Elizabeth Fire Department overturned en route to a call at South Central Elementary School late Thursday morning.
Harrison County Sheriff Nick Smith said it happened on State Road 11 near Depauw Church Road. Smith said two firefighters, who were trapped inside the truck, were both extricated and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and are expected to recover.
Evidence at the scene shows the driver of the firetruck may have veered off the road, overcorrecting the truck, causing it to roll over. No other vehicles were involved.
The truck was responding to a call from the South Central school building in Elizabeth, Superintendent Mark Eastridge said. Firefighters were responding to a report of smoke from the HVAC system.
Firefighters responded to the building for two previous calls Thursday morning when electricity was restored after a power outage, Eastridge said. The Boone Township Volunteer Fire Department responded to the third call after the crash.
Students and most staff were dismissed from the school early. No one was hurt at the school, Eastridge said.
Elementary, junior and senior high school students attend the school, also on State Road 11 east of Elizabeth.
