LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville nonprofit delivered new educational books to a group in Nashville focused on supporting children impacted by violence.

Christopher 2X's Game Changers has devoted resources to supporting children impacted by gun violence with the Future Healers program, which is a partnership between the Game Changers, UofL Hospital's Trauma Institute and students at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. The goal of the program is to help Louisville children who have been impacted by violence in their neighborhoods to build a better future.

Members of the Future Healers visited Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn. on Aug. 24, 2024.

Earlier this summer, the nonprofit's program released the Future Healers Journey to Wellness Personal Journal. It's a 100-page book that blends fun and learning activities for a unique resource that focuses on wellness and health sciences. University of Louisville School of Medicine students authored the book.

The book project was supported by the Bureau of Justice Assistance and the Kentucky Justice and Public Safety Cabinet.

The book starts with firearm, burn and fire safety tips. Then it focuses on wellness by highlighting the importance of vitamins and nutrients, sleep and relaxing, among other topics. Each section ends with a journal entry. The book also has a section on coping strategies before focusing on the human body.

Last summer, the program for children ages 4-to-13 expanded to Nashville. The Future Healers program are now working with doctors from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and nonprofit Stronger Than My Father to help form The Future is NOW (Non-violent Options Win).

On Saturday, members of the Future Healers program traveled to Nashville to drop off the books at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine students and the lead surgeon directing the expansion, Dr. Rachel Appelbaum.

While the Future Healers in Louisville kicked off its fourth year of instruction earlier this month, the group in Nashville is starting its second year. Participants in Nashville will be given the new books at the kick-off session starting on Sept. 7.
