LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Just in time for summer, the Kentucky Derby Museum is reopening its Stable Exhibit.
The exhibit has been closed because of the ongoing construction at the track, but it reopened on June 4, along with mini-horse ambassador Mighty Aristides -- Ari for short -- and retired thoroughbred Camp Hope. His last race at Churchill Downs was on November 29, 2024.
Ari is a permanent resident at the stable, but his thoroughbred roomies are changed out every few months.
Camp Hope is available for adoption through Second Stride, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization for retired thoroughbred racehorses, according to the Kentucky Derby Museum's website.
Ari's name was chosen from among 1,400 entries after Churchill Downs asked the public for help. Ari was taken in by Meaningful Menagerie Animal Assisted Therapy & Rescue and given to the museum in 2022 when he was five months old.
The roan colored mini-horse is looking forward to welcoming guests at the Stable Exhibit, which has been part of the museum since its opening in 1985. It's located outside the Museum, near the Oaks Garden Terrace. Visitors are encouraged to take photos and videos, but are not allowed to pet or interact with the horses for their safety and the safety of guests.
Visits at the museum's stable are free every day during normal hours, and guests are not required to purchase an admission ticket to visit the stable.
