LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville households will be able to apply for Low-Income Home Energy Assistance for heating assistance this week.

Applications will open on Nov. 5 on a first-come, first-serve basis and go through Dec. 20, unless designated funds have been expended.

LIHEAP Fall Subsidy provides households in Kentucky a one-time benefit depending on housing category, fuel type used for heating and income level. It can be applied toward home heating costs for electric, natural gas, propane, coal, wood or fuel oil. The benefits are paid directly to the home's energy vendor.

To qualify, households must meet eligibility requirements including income eligibility of up to and including 150% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. Louisville residents apply through the Louisville Metro Office of Resilience and Community Services.

Appointments are required in advance to apply. There is a toll-free automated appointment system available 24 hours a day to schedule an in-person appointment at one of seven locations.
