LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — According to national statistics, Kentucky has the fourth highest rate of child abuse in the country.
That's according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Louisville and state leaders Thursday joined advocates from the Family and Children's Place for a rally to end child abuse.
U.S. data shows Kentucky's rate of child abuse is double the national average with children under one suffering the most.
"Our children are suffering, our families are suffering and this suffering is needless and the suffering must be stopped," U.S. Rep. Morgan McGarvey, D-KY, said.
The Family and Children's Place provides resources and support to help families prevent and stop child abuse and neglect.
"And we must invest in places like the Family and Children's Place so that these kids are not thrown on the scrapheap of humanity and are given a chance to make something with their lives," McGarvey said.
