LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The city of Louisville is stepping up its efforts against illegal massage parlors.
There is now a multi-agency taskforce to shut them down.
"If you wanna call it massage parlors, human trafficking, prostitution, or modern-day slavery," Metro Councilman Jeff Hudson, R-23, said. "Today is the day Louisville Metro Government is going to take a stand against it. This matter affects not only public safety but also the health, dignity and well-being of our residents."
The city said fake massage parlors are often fronts for organized trafficking operations.
There is now a proposed ordinance with Metro Council to better help distinguish legitimate businesses from fake ones.
The taskforce will impose stricter license and operation requirements. It will also conduct criminal investigations.
