LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The man charged with hoarding hazardous materials in his Highview home posted bond and is headed to treatment as part of a home incarceration agreement.
Last month, a judge lowered Marc Hibel's bond, allowing him to post $10,000 and be released on HIP as long as he undergoes in-patient mental health and addiction treatment for two weeks.
According to court documents, Hibel posted bond and was released Monday.
While his home on Applegate Lane is slowly demolished by crews with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, it's unclear where Hibel, 53, will serve his home incarceration following treatment.
Also as part of his release, Hibel was ordered to have "no contact with chemicals or dangerous substances."
Hibel had been lodged in Metro Corrections in downtown Louisville on a $50,000 cash bond since being charged Aug. 3 with two counts of burglary and wanton endangerment after officials found more than 20 dangerous chemicals at the home on Applegate Lane in Highview.
Acting on tips from the public that Hibel "may be in possession of homemade explosives," two properties in the 6200 block of Applegate Lane were searched by Louisville Metro Police officers and other law enforcement officials, who found multiple explosives and "massive amounts" of dangerous chemicals.
According to court documents, Hibel invited authorities in and showed them what he called homemade explosives using TNT. An arrest citation for Hibel said he "is a chemist by trade and admitted to possessing laboratory-grade equipment and chemicals."
After months of planning, crews started demolishing the home last week.
After detonating explosives on-site back in July, the city originally planned to burn down the house. But the EPA scratched that plan, instead opting to tear it down with an excavator, which it said is the safer option.
Hibel is due back in court Monday, Oct. 30.
