LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- At least two fire departments battled an apartment fire in Scottsburg early Tuesday morning.Ā
The Scottsburg Fire Department posted a picture of the scene at 111 W. Cherry Street on its Facebook page around 6:30 a.m. The National Apartments are right across the street from the Scottsburg fire station.
Scottsburg Fire and Rescue ChiefĀ James Richey said crews were on scene almost immediately after the fire was reported around 3 a.m.Ā
"We had an individual get out really quick from Station 2 and do a really good report," Richey said. "He had reported heavy fire coming out of the southwest side of the structure. Our paid staff on the other side of town was able to come in secondary with a ladder truck. We got a really quick start on it; however, it was way far ahead before we even got called."
Scottsburg Fire and Rescue contacted the Monroe Township Fire Department for assistance, according to a post on its Facebook page. That fire department sent a ladder truck, two tanker trucks and an engine to help fight the flames.Ā
Glennece Brann, who lives nearby, said she was asleep when she heard the commotion outside and her residence began filling up with smoke.Ā

"I woke up -- I heard a loud pop and a bang, and the power went out," Brann recalled. "And I didn't really think too much about it, but I thought 'oh I hear somebody's alarm clock going off,' and it wasn't the alarm clock. It was a fire alarm apparently. My apartment immediately started filling up with smoke."Ā
No injuries have been reported.Ā
