LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The National Weather Service in Louisville will be conducting a required system update next week, temporarily taking area weather radio transmitters offline.
The scheduled update to the Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS) will begin at 8 a.m. on Monday, May 19, and continue through Wednesday, May 21. During that time, all nine NOAA Weather Radio transmitters, maintained by the NWS Louisville office — which serve central Kentucky and south-central Indiana — will be offline.
The AWIPS system is used to display weather and water information, and send critical weather warnings and updates.
During the update, NWS offices in Paducah and Indianapolis will handle forecast and warnings operations for the NWS Louisville coverage area.
The NWS reminds people to make sure to have a back up way of receiving weather warning information, either by local TV/radio, weather apps, or at the NWS website by clicking here.
