LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- One person was hospitalized after a fire broke out at an apartment just off Westport Road on Tuesday morning.

Salvador Melendez, Anchorage Middletown Fire and EMS spokesperson, said in a statement that crews responded to an apartment fire in the 10000 block of Shining Willow Drive around 9:42 a.m.

According to Melendez, there was heavy smoke pouring from the eaves on the front of the two-story, multi-unit building.

Crews were able to extinguish the main body of fire and contain the fire to the unit it came from.

Two adults got out of the building before firefighters arrived, but one adult was taken to UofL Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries for smoke inhalation.

The fire started in a bedroom of the apartment, officials said. Residents are being relocated to another apartment in the same complex.

It took 32 firefighters and medical personnel 25 minutes to control the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
