LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The elevators have been down at the Brown Suburban Condominium Homes on Bardstown Road for more than a week.
Last January, a similar thing happened, but the elevators were down for months.
Now, the building is managed by a different company called Blue Arrow. It took over in March 2025.
A month later, in April 2025, Blue Arrow signed a contract with an elevator vendor to replace the mechanical equipment for both elevators in the building. The project was expected to take 11 months.
Leaders at Blue Arrow tells us while crews were working on one elevator, the other broke unexpectedly last week.
In a statement, Suzannah Parrish from Blue Arrow said in part, "We understand the frustration and hardship of the elevator being down. We are doing everything we can to get the elevators up and running and to assist residents who may need assistance."
WDRB spoke with one man who is staying with a friend who lives on the 12th floor and asked to stay anonymous.
"I know there's a lot of elderly and disabled individuals here that are having problems with getting to the grocery," the man said. "It's just interfered with a lot of people's lives as far as getting up and down the stairs."
Management tells us one elevator is fixed and was tested by the vendor. They're now waiting for it to be inspected by the state. They said work on the second elevator will begin immediately.
Here's the full statement from Blue Arrow:
"In March 2025, Blue Arrow was hired to replace the prior manager. The board approved a significant assessment and signed a contract with an elevator vendor in April 2025 to replace the mechanical equipment for the elevators. This comprehensive project was expected to take around 11 months to complete both elevators.
Throughout this process, we successfully maintained one of the older elevators in functional condition until last week; however, it has now become unrepairable. We are pleased to announce that the first of the two elevators has been completed, undergone testing from the vendor & should be submitted to the elevator inspector today for certification. Work on the second elevator will begin immediately.
We understand the frustration and hardship of the elevator being down. We are doing everything we can to get the elevators up and running and to assist residents who may need assistance."
