LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Drivers who use River Road will be pleasantly surprised for the rest of August, as the road has fully reopened from Zorn Avenue to Prospect during a pause in Louisville Water Company's residual line project.

That's according to a news release from Louisville Water.

The utility has been installing two new water lines to remove byproducts from the water treatment process.  So far, more than half of the pipe has been installed since the project began on March 10. The company is still installing pipe in other areas.

Louisville Water officials said they will continue to allow local access to nearby businesses, restaurants, and parks. Detour signs will be in place once work resumes on Tuesday, Sept. 2. That work will begin near Glenview Avenue and Lime Kiln Lane, and is expected to wrap up in early November.

The entire project will continue through this year and into 2026, with a goal of completing most of the River Road work by next summer, according to the release.
