LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB/WAVE) — A Louisville group celebrated eight years of service Friday, but it needs help to keep going.

Uniting Partners for Women and Children is the only day shelter exclusively serving families in Louisville.

For nearly a decade, they have provided support and resources for mothers and children experiencing homelessness.

An open house held Friday celebrated the 10-year milestone. UP is also hosting a fundraiser, as organizers say changes at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development could impact their bottom line.

"We've been seeing an increase in the need, quite honestly," said Executive Director Lorena Hood. "So, here at our day shelter where we're providing the case management and the essential basic needs services and connecting other people to services, we serve between 100 to 130 people per day. Our numbers used to be 80 to 100, this uptick has been in the last six months.
