LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- This week friends and family will honor the Jefferson County Sheriff's deputy killed in an accidental shooting.
Jeffersontown police said Marion "Scott" Fawbush, 60, died after an incident in his car last week after he had finished working a detail. Police said his gun went off, and the bullet hit an artery in his leg.
Fawbush served 31 years in the Army, retiring as a Command Sergeant Major. He joined the sheriff's office in 2016 and in 2022 was named reserve deputy of the year. He appeared in recruitment commercials for the sheriff's office that aired on WDRB in recent years.
"It's a big loss. He was a good guy and a good deputy," the sheriff's office said in a statement.
Visitation for Fawbush is Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Arch L Heady Funeral Home on Bardstown Road. The Fraternal Order of Police memorial ceremony will follow.
Fawbush's funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday at Southeast Christian Church.
