LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Two titans of business and philanthropy in Louisville were honored for their contributions to the community.
Wade and Alice Houston received the Louisville Forum's Fleur-de-Lis Award during a ceremony Thursday evening at the Waterfront Botanical Gardens.
"We understand that, to whom much is given, much is expected. And what you do for yourself will last for a time, but what you do for others can last forever," said Wade Houston. "We understand that as a couple, and as a company, so it's about doing things for other people that really make a difference."
Wade Houston is a UofL basketball great and became the first Black head basketball coach in the SEC at Tennessee.
Alice Houston was the co-founder, owner and former CEO of the family business, HJI Supply Chain Solutions.
In 2022, Leadership Louisville created an award and a program in her honor as part of a women's leadership program to help accelerate and keep women in positions of influence. She was also honored with a Muhammad Ali Humanitarian Award in 2022.
Wade and Alice Houston's son is New York Knicks legend and two-time NBA All-Star, Allan Houston, who is also an Olympic Gold Medalist as a member of the U.S. men's basketball team at the 2000 Summer Olympics.
The couple has funded countless jobs, programs, developments, and scholarships in Louisville for decades.
Former UofL basketball great Darrell Griffith served as the featured speaker during Thursday evening's awards dinner.
