LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A cross-country bike ride to both make and save memories rolled through Louisville Friday afternoon.

About a dozen students from Western Kentucky University biking from California to Virginia stopped back in their home state.

The group has been traveling all summer in support of Bike4Alz, a nonprofit that raises money for Alzheimer's research.

The riders are all members of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, including Louisville native Carter Chapman.

"It's been super difficult on all of us. We've all been through the full emotional spectrum. But it's all worth it because everything we do out here, no matter how difficult it gets, nothing compares to what people with Alzheimer's go through and that's why we're doing it," Chapman said. "That's what we remember every time it gets hard, and that's what keeps us pedaling."

The students have raised $80,000 so far, including a $10,000 donation Friday from local leather-maker Clayton & Crume.

The group's goal is to raise $100,000.
